Marcraft visited Atlanta Career and College Academy to provide instructor training related to the STS Security and Surveillance (SS) Endorsement using the STS-9000 panel. The session introduced the course structure and allowed instructors to review the equipment and concepts used in modern building security and surveillance systems training.

Overview of the STS Security and Surveillance Endorsement

The STS Security and Surveillance Endorsement helps students develop skills for installing, configuring and maintaining residential and light-commercial security systems. The curriculum covers intrusion detection, fire detection, surveillance system components and basic access control. These topics prepare students for entry-level roles in the security and low-voltage industry.

Hands-On Equipment Used in Building Security Training

The program includes practical activities that use real system hardware. Examples include security controllers, sensors, surveillance cameras, DVRs, motion detectors, smoke detectors, magnetic locks, card readers, strobes, sirens and RJ-31x connections. This equipment allows learners to practice wiring, testing and troubleshooting in realistic scenarios.

Key Topics Introduced in the Course

Students are introduced to door and window sensors, wired and wireless designs, power supervision, end-of-line resistors, lighting control protocols and remote access. The course also explores camera features such as light sensitivity, lens types, image quality, monitoring options and recorder configurations.
